Welcoming the Moonah Hotel & Cellars to the Mountain Culture Family

At Mountain Culture, we’ve always been drawn to the peaks. Whether it’s the rugged sandstone of our home in the Blue Mountains or the snow-capped silhouette of kunanyi/Mount Wellington, there’s something about that crisp mountain air that makes you work harder, explore further, and, most importantly, crave a better beer at the end of the day.

That’s why, when the opportunity arose to find a permanent home in the heart of North Hobart, we didn't just see a building. We saw a kindred spirit.

We are beyond stoked to officially announce that the Moonah Hotel & Cellars is now part of the Mountain Culture family.

A Local Legend, Preserved

We know what you’re thinking: "Is my favourite pub about to get a corporate makeover?" The short answer? Absolutely not.

We fell in love with the Moonah Hotel for the same reasons you did. As a venue, it’s unpretentious, it’s welcoming, and it’s the kind of place where high-vis meets high-end craft beer to relax and unwind without anyone batting an eyelid. While our Murray Street Taproom in the Hobart CBD is our city flagship, Moonah is, and will always be, a proper local pub.

The name stays. The soul stays. The legendary crew behind the bar stays. We’re just here to make sure the fridges are stocked with the freshest beer possible, the vibe is dialled up to eleven, and that legendary beer garden remains the go-to spot for a Sunday arvo or Friday night session.

What’s on Tap? (The Good Stuff)

You can expect a serious upgrade to the tap list. We’re bringing the full Mountain Culture experience to the Moonah lines, including:

  • The Core Heavyweights: Fresh pours of Status Quo Pale Ale, our Cult IPA, and our crisp Lager.

  • Limited Releases: If we’re brewing a weird and wonderful sour or a heavy-hitting double IPA in Sydney or Hobart, you’ll find it here first.

  • The Cellars: Our takeaway game is levelling up. The Moonah Cellars will continue to be a curated hub for the best beers in the country, with a massive focus on Mountain Culture’s latest drops and fresh cans.

The Bottle Shop: Take the Culture Home

It’s called the Moonah Hotel & Cellars for a reason. We know the convenience of picking up a cold six-pack on the way home is sacred. Our on-site bottle shop is getting a major boost, serving as a curated hub for the freshest Mountain Culture cans alongside a hand-picked selection of the best domestic and international brews.

Whether you're looking for a rare limited release or just a reliable carton of our Juice Trip Hazy Ale for the weekend, the bottle shop has you covered.

A Dining Room Filled with Pub Classics

A pub is only as good as its parmi, and we aren't messing with tradition. Our kitchen and dining room will continue to serve a menu with the hearty, soul-warming pub food Moonah is famous for, but with a few "Mountain" twists. Yes, that means you can expect hearty meals, such as our share plates and our signature burgers, which are the perfect accompaniment to a cold schooner while you're soaking up the sun and some live music in the garden.

Why Tassie?

Expansion for us has never been about world domination; it’s about community. Tasmania has one of the most vibrant, discerning beer scenes in the world. By having a home in Moonah, we can brew locally, offer great food, support Tassie jobs, and ensure that when you order a schooner of your favourite beer, it hasn't spent its best days waiting on a boat across the Strait. It’s fresh, it’s local, and it’s exactly how beer should be.

North Hobart's Newest Local Pub

Whether you’re a lifelong Moonah local or a recently-joined member of the Mountain Culture "Cult" making the pilgrimage across Australia, the doors are open, the heaters are on, the public bar is cosy, and the pints are cold.

Next time you’re in the neighbourhood, come find us at 97 Main Rd, Moonah TAS 7009. We’d love for you to book a table to secure your spot in the sun, and be sure to follow the journey on socials to see what we're cracking into next. See you at the bar. The first round is better at the local.
