As the Mountains' trees start to take on their Autumn palettes and a cooling breeze whispers through the brewer's overalls, it can only mean one thing: Winter is coming so it's stout time, baby. To kick off this year’s dark series, we’ve dialled the ABV up to double figures and utilised a double mash to provide balance. The addition of chocolate from Spencer Cocoa in Mudgee was just us being a little indulgent.

Don't get intimidated by the ABV, embrace it, as its just part of a very warm, long ride. If there's such a thing as bright black, this beer is it. Translucent black, purple black, neon black - I don't know, but top it off with a creamy head and this looks the part in a glass. Like Robert Redford in a long dark coat, dressed for winter. We enjoyed this as a pre dinner drink, but could have gone equally well during main course, or even after dessert. The balance of cocoa was perfect. Possibly the best, big ABV stout I have ever had, and I've had a few. And did I mention the length? Please bring it back!

This beer isn't for the feint hearted. Chocolate, smooth, sweet and boozy. A 500ml can would be perfect to share with someone, however, I would do no such thing!
