Kids Eat Free in Melbourne, Sunday Family Lunches at Mountain Culture

There is a particular kind of Sunday that Melbourne does better than most cities. The mornings start slow, the trams stretch out lazily along Bridge Road, and by lunchtime the kids and the little ones are running on the kind of energy that needs a paddock, not a lounge area. Somewhere around midday the question always lands the same way. Where do we go for lunch where the whole family is actually happy?
Our answer sits on Murphy Street in Richmond. At Mountain Culture’s Melbourne brewpub, just a short walk from the MCG and East Richmond Station, Sunday is built for families. The retractable roof opens to the afternoon sun, the kitchen runs at full tilt, and the special kids menu earns its keep without parents pretending the food is a treat.
Every Sunday from 12pm we run our Kids Eat Free promotion. With the purchase of any adult main meal from our regular menu, one free kids meal lands at the table for each paying adult. It is the kind of kids eat free promotion that helps families save on dining costs in Melbourne without compromising on the food, the room, or the cheeky arvo beer that anchors the table.
It's the sort of Sunday that makes the working week feel a little further away, the perfect place for the whole family to slow down, and the kind of family lunch that gets booked into the calendar rather than negotiated each week.

The Sunday Kids Eat Free Deal
Our Kids Eat Free Sunday is built the way the best family lunches in Melbourne should run. Generous, simple, and with no fine print waiting to trip you up at the till.
From midday onwards, every Sunday, the kitchen swings into family service. Order a main, bring the children, and the kids menu opens up at no charge. Bring more little ones, order more mains, and the deal scales with the table.
The Day: Every Sunday.
The Time: From 12:00 pm.
The Deal: One free kids meal for every adult main meal purchased, plus a cheeky arvo schooner for the grown-ups if you fancy it.
The Venue: Mountain Culture Melbourne Brewpub, 148/150 Murphy Street, Richmond.
Whether you are ducking out for a casual Sunday lunch with the kids, hosting the in-laws after a morning at the markets, or rounding up the cousins for a long table catch-up, the deal sits comfortably in the rhythm of a Melbourne weekend. The food is made to order, the kids menu lands fast, and the bar runs on a relaxed Sunday tempo.
What’s on the Sunday Kids Menu?
Mountain Culture is known for pushing what a brewpub kitchen can put out, and our special kids menu carries that same care. Three honest options that actually feed a kid, made from the same kitchen turning out the brisket and burgers next to it. No frozen patties, no afterthoughts, no sad pile of beige.
Mini MC Burger: The Mini MC Burger takes the same smash patty technique we use on the grown-up cheeseburger and shrinks it onto a kid-sized milk bun with cheese, no pickles, no fuss. Served with a small bowl of chips and tomato sauce on the side. It is the burger our youngest regulars come back for week after week and one our littlest customers love.
Crispy Chicken and Chips: Crispy Chicken and Chips is our take on the pub classic, and a plate the kids love. Hand-crumbed chicken tenders cooked to order, golden chips, and a choice of tomato or BBQ sauce on the side. The crumb goes on in-house, which keeps the chicken juicy and the crunch holding up even for the slowest eaters at the table.
Mac and Cheese: Mac and Cheese is the comfort plate. House-made cheese sauce, soft pasta, and a golden crust on top from a quick pass under the salamander. Creamy, properly cheesy, and the safest landing pad for a kid who is suspicious of anything new on a restaurant menu.
Kids Dessert & Free Ice Cream: Round the meal out with a kids dessert from the main menu, or a scoop of free ice cream that lands at the table on request when the kids have polished off their plate. It is a small touch, but the kind that gets the whole family talking about Sunday lunch all the way home.

Beyond the Plate: Mains, Snacks, and the Drinks Menu
While the children are working through their plate, the grown-ups have the run of the full kitchen. Our Sunday main meal menu carries the Mountain Culture signatures, smoked brisket, the MC Cheeseburger, the Bang Bang Salad, beer-battered fish, wood-fired sides, and seasonal specials pulled together by our chefs.
The wine list runs through Victorian, interstate, and imported drops, with a house pour that rotates by season. The cocktail menu covers espresso martinis, the classics done properly, and a Sunday-leaning seasonal lineup. Cider is on tap alongside a growing non-alcoholic selection for designated drivers, expecting parents, and anyone keeping it dry. Soft drinks, fresh juice, and a kids’ drinks list are all on the menu, with babycinos available on request.
If the lunch stretches into the late afternoon and the dinner service, the bar carries on, the tap list keeps ticking over, and the upstairs private bar can be booked in advance for larger family gatherings, milestone birthdays, and christenings.
The Cheeky Arvo Beer
The schooner you pour alongside your Sunday lunch is brewed by the same crew behind Status Quo Pale Ale, voted Australia’s number one craft beer four years running.
That same flagship sits on the Richmond tap list alongside Cult IPA, our Aussie Premium Lager, and a rotating line-up of limited releases, seasonal brews, and experimental small-batch pours that change as the calendar turns. Sunday tends to bring out the easy drinkers, our crisper lagers and hop-forward pales pour particularly well in the afternoon sun.
If you are unsure what suits the plate in front of you, the bar team will steer you. They know the full tap list inside out and can read the table between a quick schooner and a slower jug to share. For the grown-ups behind the wheel later, our non-alcoholic line-up has expanded enough to cover the whole afternoon and into the dinner service.

Why Mountain Culture Sits Among Melbourne’s Best Family-Friendly Pubs
Melbourne is a city that takes family pubs seriously, and the best of them earn their place by being more than a kids menu and a colouring sheet. Our Richmond brewpub holds its own among the city’s best because it does the hard parts properly. The food on the kids plate matches the food on the grown-up plate. The room feels like a real pub, not a soft-play centre. The deal makes sense at the bill, no asterisks, no sneaky surcharges.
Five minutes from the Yarra River, a short walk from the MCG, and well connected to Melbourne CBD via East Richmond Station, the venue suits Richmond locals and crews travelling in from further out. The retractable roof opens up the main floor on warmer Sundays, the long tables work for grandparents-and-grandkids gatherings, and the bar runs at a tempo that lets parents actually breathe between courses.
For families who want a proper Sunday lunch with the kind of food and beer the grown-ups would order anyway, this one earns its spot in the regular rotation as the perfect place to land at midday on a Sunday.
Make Sunday Your New Melbourne Family Lunch Spot
Ready to swap the supermarket-and-leftovers Sunday for a proper sit-down? Our Richmond brewpub takes walk-ins for Kids Eat Free Sunday, though we recommend booking a table if you are bringing more than four people, hosting the in-laws, or rolling in for a birthday lunch.
The pace is unhurried, the roof opens when the weather plays nicely, and the room is built to feel more like a long Sunday with friends than a tightly run service. If you would like to scan the full kids menu and Sunday mains before you arrive, you can find both on our Melbourne brewpub page. We will see you on Murphy Street, every Sunday, from 12, with the deal valid every Sunday under normal trading.
